Pointing a domain to your server

Create the DNS records that point your domain name at your RMDHost server.

Find your server IP

Your IPv4 (and IPv6 where included) address is in the welcome email and the service page of the client area.

Create the records

At the DNS provider for your domain, add:

  • an A record for @ (the root domain) pointing to your IPv4 address
  • an A record for www – or a CNAME for www pointing to your root domain
  • an AAAA record if your server has IPv6

Check propagation

Changes usually appear within minutes but can take up to 48 hours, depending on the TTL. Check from your computer:

dig +short example.com
nslookup example.com

Once the domain resolves, you can issue an HTTPS certificate – for example with Let’s Encrypt on Nginx.
