Creating and restoring snapshots

Take a point-in-time snapshot of your VPS before changes and roll back if something goes wrong.

A snapshot captures the whole disk of your VPS at a single moment. It is ideal before upgrades, migrations or risky configuration changes.

Create a snapshot

  1. Open your VPS in the client area or server control panel.
  2. Go to Snapshots and select Create snapshot.
  3. Give it a clear name, for example before-php-upgrade.

Restore a snapshot

  1. Go to Snapshots, find the snapshot and select Restore.
  2. Confirm. The server reboots into the saved state – anything written after the snapshot was taken is lost.

Snapshots are not backups

Snapshots are stored alongside your server platform. Keep an independent off-site backup of important data as well – see Automate backups to object storage with restic.
